Some of my earliest childhood memories are of being in the garden with my mother. At the time we were living on a farm in rural Iowa. It was common for people to have large home farm gardens. At the time it wasn’t trendy to eat locally raised foods. We grew food in our gardens as a necessity-either economic or availability. I loved spending time in the kitchen with my mother. She taught me to appreciate the complex flavors of simply prepared foods. Over the years, we began to explore food from different cultures and new techniques for preparing foods. Although Mom has been gone for many years, she remains the primary influence of my love for cooking and eating fresh foods. I continue to learn new ways to prepare foods and would like to share some of my favorite adventures.
